Niuatui Niuatui

Economist

Niuatui is our Country Economist for the Republic of the Marshall Islands under our capacity building project for the Northern Pacific, funded by the Asian Development Bank. He is also our Country Team Leader for the project.

 

A Tuvalu national, he brings to our Team 19 years of public service experience. His latest assignment was with the World Bank Group as an Advisor to the Executive Director (2022-2024). In this role, he advised Executive Directors on matters related to the budgets of all World Bank institutions including independent agencies of the World Bank. He also provided technical support to the Pacific Representative to the grant facility of the Bank - the International Development Association (IDA).

 

Prior to the World Bank, he worked for the Ministry of Finance, Government of Tuvalu for 17 years in key strategic areas such as: the formulation and review of national development plans; formulation of national budgets; development partners budget support operations; collection, and analysis of economic and social data.

 

He has been involved in many public financial management reforms and has advised the Government of Tuvalu in areas such as: access to climate finance; national infrastructure priorities; private sector development; land lease reforms; fisheries; environment; overseas development assistance; monitoring, and evaluation.   

 

He holds a Master of International and Development Economics from the Australian National University and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand.
