IGFOA Summer 2022 Conference Report Now Available

The Island Government Finance Officers’ Association (IGFOA) has met at least annually every year since 1999 to participate in professional development and networking activities and to advance an agenda for financial management improvement. IGFOA Meetings also provide a forum for participants to discuss common issues and strategies, and to develop a shared agenda for training, organizational development, and technical assistance. The 2022 IGFOA summer conference presented trainings on connecting with GFOA's Enterprise Resource Planning Resource (ERP) resources, building employee engagement in the "new world" of work, and updates on new GASB accounting standards. Finally, the forum provided each participating government with the opportunity to update their government-specific action plans to address ongoing issues, including audit performance, new accounting standards, FMIS procurement and implementation, and finance office performance measurement. The agenda for the conference was developed following feedback from previous conferences, and current issues in government accounting. The goals of the June 2022 IGFOA conference were to:

  • Reconvene and reenergize the Island Government Finance Officers’ Association and its members;
  • Review key issues and ideas presented during the GFOA Conference and discuss applicability to the insular governments;
  • Review the insular governments' single audit status for FY20 and FY21; discuss expected delays and strategies to get back on-track;
  • Review forthcoming GASB standards applicable to IGFOA members, especially GASB-87 Lease Accounting;
  • Identify key take-aways and follow-up activities for each insular government.
